This Buddhist doctrine of the non-existence of the self, or anatta, is important to understand; for the self, or rather the illusion of self, is the primary factor which keeps individuals in the cycle of suffering. It is the "self", the "I", which experiences desire and craving, the very causes of one's suffering. Craving for sensory gratification, craving for continued existence, craving for annihilation.

A lack of understanding of dependent origination, for any conceptualization in terms of opposites assumes the validity and existence of concepts; and such concepts, under Buddhist philosophy, do not exist except within the mind.

This blissful state is equivalent to a sense of "oneness" brought about by the meditator's recovery of a pre-verbal experience which no longer confuses the duality of bipolar construing with the unity of reality

Well of course you googled it, and googling presents you with websites. I was getting to the heart of the matter by asking which website.

there is life after death cuz i just brought the topic back to life, sucka!

thank you, thank you, ill be here all night... anyway, since it seems i missed the party (i.e. this topic) i decided to put in my two cents (that and im bored):

im not religious and i dont plan to be either (not that theres anything wrong with it). i dont neccessarily believe in a god but i do believe in "something", a higher form of sorts. id almost like to think that earth itself is that higher being. i also dont really believe in a heaven or hell (tho there are some instances when a hell for those select few would be greatly appreciated). i lean more towards reincarnation. similar to what others have said, i think we are energy and when we die we go back where we came from... back to the earth. i also definitely think when we are "redistributed", theres a good chance that we're put into animals, bugs, plants, whatever. whether or not its random or selected, i dunno but id like to think that maybe instead of "hell", those deserving get turned into bugs who get squished, sprayed with lysol, etc. im thinking a constant life/death cycle fitting for certain scum. as for "heaven" possibly for that person who loves flying, well, they become a bird and so on. i guess loosely based off of budism, maybe we do just keep going as this energy, from life to life, living and dying.

i find all that kinda pleasant... i guess thats how most people choose their ideas on the afterlife, whatever is most pleasant or satisfying. eh, what do we know? we'll find out soon enough, right?

I've got one problem with the logic of the whole "we're energy so we'll be re-incarnated" theory.

Sure, everything is made of energy. But when burn a piece of wood, the ashes don't land somewhere and turn into a cat. They may make the soil more fertile, allowing more plants to grow, which in turn allows more animals to be around because there are things to eat which might bring a cat around to eat them.

So the theory saying we're made up of energy to be re-incarnated would better be put up as.....

We're energy so we'll be recycled and used up by other living / energy life-forms to promote their lives, which will in turn die and disperse their energy in a similiar fashion.

I guess my main problem is with this theory you're trying to use science to back up your beliefs, and science cannot do that yet.

lol, i got a lot of problems with many religions and their beliefs but eh... thats what makes it our own "beliefs", right? i personally dont believe in jesus (atleast not all of the story) but people "believing" in him makes them happy. so whatever floats their boat, right? :)

im pretty sure theres definitely more to life than just "energy" and its obviously unknown to us, so i guess i used that word loosely. :?

the whole wood analogy doesnt work for me in the sense that lets say somebody gets their arm chopped off, i wouldnt think that the arm would become its own entity. i never meant for it to be thought of like that. i guess the "soul" or single entity of a tree (from that piece of wood) would be in its roots, bulbs or possibly individual leaves... hell, i just dont know. which takes me back to where i left off in the first place, the fact that nobody knows (except for those who arent already dead). so until then, ill just go with what i "think" is right. 8)

...plus, i think we'll be alright cuz i dont plan on "recruiting" you or anyone else into going along with my "beliefs" and "ideas" so no worries, eh?

Well, Even Satan himself believes in Jesus. Yes, Jesus did walk here on earth, it being a well known 'fact'. It's not like it's a secret if rather or not he exsisted. People believing in him doesn't make them happy. Not only do I believe 'in' him, but I believe 'on' him. Which is really different. And just because you believe 'in' or 'on' him doesn't defined rather or not you are happy. Everyone must go through Struggles. What blows my mind is how many non-Christians automatically assume that Christians are...happy. Truth is, more Christians now are being murdered for their belief there ever was in history. Of course, there are more Christians now then there ever was which would, I guess, bring on more senseless killings. But aside from the facts. Just because someone believes 'in' or 'on' Jesus, doesn't mean that they are better off here on earth...Just better off after death. ;)

But yeah, lets not forget. We don't need a boat. We'll just walk on water.
