Miers has withdrawn

Postby insanehippie » Thu Oct 27, 2005 5:48 pm

I'm very happy that Mrs. Miers has withdrawn. Her only credentials were that she was GWB's lawyer, and the first woman lawyer in the history of the world, and she makes a great birthday cake. Her only other credentials were that she was a good Christian...

And I always thought that the U.S. Constitution banned religious tests.

Thankfully good sense took over and kept her from being on the Supreme Court. Now if only GWB can bring in someone much better qualified for the Supreme Court.

It is a good day for me, and other conservatives who don't like obvious cronyism like this. I'm hoping for Janice Rogers Brown or Mike McConnel who is from Houston and used to do a call in show on the weekends.

(The poll will be open for 20 days)

I think her nomination was silly, especially compared to Roberts. I may not like Roberts' stance on several issues, but I can agree that he was VERY qualified for the position. I would rather someone who I disagree with that is very qualified on the Supreme bench rather than someone who I agree with, but very unqualifed. Politics aside, we don't need newbies on the supreme court who need hand holding to put on their robes.

The Miers thing was not exactly out of left field, but please it was nonsense. I hate when time is wasted and could be put to better use.

I think Bush is a genious. All this Harriet Myers crap was just a distraction from the Rove crap. I think they planned on her stepping down or whatever before they even told her about it. It was an attempt to make Liberals pissed off and they didn't take the bait. Well, kinda. I don't know, all I know is it was planned. You can't tell me that it's just Ironic. Bush knew what he was doing.

If that was a earlier thought out distraction it was the worst distraction in recent history! That "distraction" did nothing but put a fire under the asses of GWB's political base of Conservatives. People like me were throwing in the towel on GWB and wondering why we voted for him if he was gonna play pattycake with the Democrats who have been losing elections for years now.

This is similar to us being friends with the USSR's head headchopper, Joe Stalin after we destroyed Nazi Germany. And the Rove "scandal" is a joke. I don't keep up with this utter crap but if Valerie Plame really was a secret CIA agent why was she in Vanity Fair magazine?

Check those three links and search Google for "Valerie Plame Vanity Fair". You will see TONS of links with images showing Diplomat and Husband Joe Wilson and his wife and CIA Agent Valerie Wilson/Plame.

The Karl Rove, Valerie Plame "scandal" is a witch hunt. The Dems can't win elections, they can't win the States all they can do is attempt to bring all Republicans through the mud. They've tried this same BS with GWB, Cheney, Karl Rove, John Roberts, Trent Lott, etc...

Thank God Harriet Miers was shot down and hopefully GWB will rediscover his Texas spine (which I don't think he has anymore) and bring in a true conservative who has a track record. Bring in Janice Rogers Brown, Michael Luttig (from the Federal Court in Richmond!) or Mike McConnell.

A flaming bag of dog waste would have been a better choice than Harriet Miers.

I'm glad that Miers stepped down but just because the whole thing had become an unproductive muddle. THe process has become so politicized it's ridiculous. If you look at how the competitors were vetted and judged a hundred years ago - it was so much simpler. The "requirements" have gotten more stringent as each side has progressively played more hardball and treated the contenders as if they were goats to the slaughter. You didn't have to be a judge of any kind, any attorney would do and that is just one more thing that has narrowed the field for women.

it's become too emotional a thing, too open a process. TV has changed everything in politics.

I'd like to restate my last point: not too open and emotional - those are not necessarily bad things. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say too "Jerry Springerized" it's easier to be a drama queen and rely on knee jerk reactions than to pause and think and let people make their case. The truth can be too inconvenient
