Hollywood Man, 34, Dies After Dispute With Tow Truck Driver
POSTED: 8:11 am EDT June 12, 2006
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Authorities said it was a quarrel over $2 that led to the death of a Hollywood man.
Authorities said Jorge Rivera, 34, called a tow truck after getting into an accident over the weekend. Then, when it came time to pay a $78 bill, Rivera gave the driver $80 in $20 bills, then became angry when the driver said he could not provide the $2 in change.
Authorities said an argument ensued and the tow truck driver became nervous. He drove off with Rivera's 1999 Chrysler Sebring, but not before Rivera jumped onto the truck cab and hung out the passenger-side window. While the man was driving, however, Rivera fell under the rear wheels of the vehicle and died.
The tow truck driver alerted police and is not currently being charged.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
